A couple of weeks ago when I was thinking about traffic patterns and music, I thought of a music box. Vehicles in the lanes of a highway made me think about the tines of a music box mechanism.
That’s kind of an old school analogy though. As I thought about it more, I thought the Guitar Hero graphic is a more modern analogy.
The four rows that button symbols appear in correlate with lanes of traffic. As the button symbols pass a certain line, the wannabe Guitar Hero is supposed to press a certain button to play a certain note. In my “Traffic Jam” piece, as the cars pass a certain line a certain sound will play. Initially the video will be what controls the sound, but eventually it might be cool to make a Traffic Hero game with a physical interface that must be “played” to match the traffic patterns.
